Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) has announced the second edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW). The week-long event, to be held under the patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani, will take place from October 28th to November 4th.
Qatar Sustainability Week is designed to actively engage Qatar’s public and private sector organisations in a wide range of sustainability-oriented activities.
The event aims to foster a culture of sustainability among residents and visitors, as well as promote engagement from members of the community. This is in line with ultimately achieving the global sustainability goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Commenting on behalf of AEB, GCEO and Chief Architect Ibrahim Al Jaidah said: “Working in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and toward sustainable environments, it is paramount that we engage the community in which we live and practice. As one of the founding organizations of QGBC, we at AEB are always willing to offer assistance and share our knowledge with the wider audience through our strategic partnership with QGBC.
For us it is important to note that there is plenty to be learned from our ancestry. Taking from our vernacular architectural elements and methods and implementing those into a contemporary approach offers not only more sustainable developments, but also a better understanding of our national identity in the modern times.”
The week-long event will host a number of activities, including a bridge building competition, a photography competition, a beach and desert cleanup, as well as the renowned Qatar Green Building Conference and Qatar Sustainability Awards.
